Mount Kailash is considered to be one of the most sacred places on earth and the trip to Kailash Manasarovar is an intense spiritual experience. The Mount Kailash along with the holy Manasarovar Lake is deeply integral to the heart of spiritual Asia. The journey that starts with the buzzing city of Kathmandu heads on a spiritual path to Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake. The beauty of the mountains and the lakes embedded in the heart of the mountains is totally mind-blowing.

Itinerary

Day 1Welcome to Nepal!


Activities: Arrive in Kathmandu at any time. Our airport representative will welcome you and explain the program further. There are no planned activities for the day, so check into the hotel. Enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel.
Highlights: Bustling Thamel, an array of restaurants, bars and shops.
Accommodation: Kathmandu hotel/B&B.

Day 2Meeting with trekking guide, last minute shopping for your trek and Kathmandu sightseeing.

Touring the World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu Valley that includes: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Pasupatinath Temple. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
Highlights: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa, Swaymbhunath and Patan Durbar Square, cultural and historical sights of the Kathmandu Valley.
Accommodation: Kathmandu hotel/B&B.

Day 3 & 4Nyalam, 2 days here for acclimatization and exploration.

After early breakfast we drive through Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel and reach Friendship Bridge (i.e. Nepal-China border). From here we walk for about 10 minutes to cross Friendship Bridge and meet our Tibetan guide and land cruiser drivers. After all the immigration and custom formalities at the Chinese check post here, our journey continues for another 35 km which can take almost 3 hours through the up-winding road to Nyalam with beautiful scenery. Then, you will be transferred to the guest house in Nyalam (3700m). The facilities of the guesthouse are very simple and basic. Overnight stay at Guesthouse.

What’s to see: The friendship bridge that joins China and Nepal, miles of countryside and local villages?

Day 5Saga.

Early breakfast drive to Saga. Passing through many villages and camps of yak herders. Far south you can see snow-capped mountain peaks. Most of the time you will be driving on plains, hence a comfortable drive. Arrive in Saga and enjoy hot tea. Overnight stay at Guesthouse.
Distance: 150km
Duration: 7-8 hours drive.
Elevation reached: 4450m.
What’s to see: Brahmaputra River, farmers herding yak and sheep and beautiful views of the plateau and mountains ahead.
Accommodation: Basic guesthouse.

Day 6Manasarovar.

After breakfast and get ready for longest driving day. Late afternoon you can have first view of Holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. Hore – a small village is situated near Holy Mansarovar Lake. Holy Mansarovar (14950ft./4558m) – the highest lake of fresh water with turquoise complexion in the world is full of fishes and swans. Holy Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandala, Lake Rakshash are lying on its surrounding. The region is considered rich for gold and other mines, hot springs and hundreds of wild living creatures.

Duration: 8 hours drive.
Elevation reached: 4558m.
What’s to see: The wide valley, snow covered peaks, by the afternoon you will be able to see Mount Kailash and the turquoise waters of Lake Manasarover.

Day 7Tarchen

Holy Mansarovar is the lake of compassion, tranquility and bliss. After completing the memorable morning bath and puja we will be heading for Holy Mansarovar Parikrama by land cruiser with packed lunch and continue drive towards Tarchen (Darchen). If time permits, we visit Chui Gompa. Tarchen is considered as a base camp for Holy Kailash Parikrama. During the auspicious pilgrimage time, this place will be flooded with pilgrims with hundreds of tents all around.
Distance: 140km
Duration: 5 hours drive.
Elevation reached: 4564m.
What’s to see: You will get a chance to perform the traditional puja that pilgrims do before circumnavigating Mount Kailash, on the banks of the lake. You will see many pilgrims performing these rituals here.
Accommodation: Guesthouse/Tented camp.

Day 8Dehara Puk

It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs; waterfalls with some clouds in the clear blue sky make you feeling that Great God Shiva is everywhere with tons of blessing to you. Time to time the face of Kailash Parbat will be kept on appearing. For 7 km trail it takes almost 7 hrs. Overnight stay at Guesthouse Tented Camp.
Hours of walking: 7.
Difficulty: Moderate to difficult.
Elevation reached: 5000m.
Terrain: Rocky cliffs.
Views on offer: Waterfalls and the face of Mount Kailash.
Highlights: The first day of your pilgrimage, enjoying the peaceful and spiritual surroundings.
What’s to see: Many pilgrims going clockwise or anti-clockwise according to their religion and Buddhists performing prostrations around the mountain?
Accommodation: Guesthouse/Tented camp.

Day 9Zuthal Puk

Hours of walking: 8.
Difficulty: Difficult/strenuous.
Elevation reached: 5900m on the Dolma Pass.
Terrain: Uneven, ridge tracks, rocky, uphill and steep trails.
Views on offer: Magnificent views of the surrounding mountains from the pass.
Highlights: Completing this sacred journey, the chance to meditate or just sit and reflect on the Dolma Pass.
What’s to see: Yamasthal where pilgrims leave old clothes, a piece of hair or a drop of blood in hope that the terrible Yamraja (The master of death) will be distracted by these signs and will allow the Yatries (travelers) to be pass through Dolma- La Pass. Parvati-sthal and Gauri Kunda .
Accommodation: Guesthouse/Tented camp.

Day 10Manasarovar

Distance: 140km
Duration: 6 hours drive after a 3 hour walk..
Elevation reached: 4558m.
What’s to see: You will get a chance to visit the natural hot springs near the lake.
Accommodation: Tented camp.

Day 11Saga

Distance: 150km
Duration: 7-8 hours drive.
Elevation reached: 4450m.
What’s to see: You will get a chance to visit some sacred temples and caves.
Accommodation: Basic guesthouse.

Day 12Nyalam

Distance: 296km
Duration: 7 hours drive.
Elevation reached: 3750m
What’s to see: Surrounding countryside and local people.
Accommodation: Basic guesthouse

Day 13Kathmandu

Today, we leave Nyalam behind. We pass the Bhote Koshi River and cross the Chinese – Nepalese border. After a short drive, we bid our Tibetan guide a goodbye. We then drive and walk to Nepalese Immigration Control in Kodari. Our Nepalese staff will complete the re-entry formalities and we drive to Kathmandu. Overnight Stay at Hotel.
