Tour Details

To stand at 6187m on the top of the Island peak amongst the most beautiful Himalayas, with mountains and snow-capped peaks and looking out over the Himalayas, is a remarkable accomplishment leaving you with unforgettable memories and stories to tell for years to come.
We set off the trip flying from Kathmandu to Lukla in a mountain flight and follow the most famous Everest Base Camp trekking route, passing through the colourful hillside town of Namche Bazaar. The route goes deep into the heart of the Khumbu region, following sacred rivers and through forests thick with rhododendron, bamboo, pine and fir trees. You will pass through charming Sherpa villages, steeped in tradition where people follow time-honoured customs for an uncomplicated life and who offer the warmest of welcomes.

The trail run through Tyangboche, Pheriche, Lobuche and eventually we reach the stunning Everest Base Camp and the incredible Kala Patthar to see amazing scenes and mountains. The Kala Pattar is famous for its breath-taking view of glittering peaks including the Mt.Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Changtse.

We then leave the other trekkers behind to encounter the summit of Island Peak, a challenging feat but believe us, all will be worth it when you reach the top and looking over the Himalayas. It is a life achievement also not many places on earth offer such magical views of the world highest and most beautiful mountains. Magnificent sights of) Lhotse, (8501m) Makalu, (8485m) Ama Dablam, (6828m) Baruntac, (7168m) Lhotse Shar, (8386m) Peak 38, (7590m) Kusum Kanguru, (6367m) Thamserku, (6,623m and the Dudh Kosi Valley are all yours for the taking when you reach the top of Island Peak.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu international Airport.

Welcome to Kathmandu!
Actions: We will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel, and just relax for the rest of the day to recover from your long journey.
Accomodation: Kathmandu 3 star hotel.

Day 2Meeting with your trekking guide, shopping for your journey and touring Kathmandu.

Tourist attractions: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa, Swaymbhunath and Patan Durbar Square, cultural and historical sights of the Kathmandu Valley.
Accomodation: Kathmandu 3 star hotel.

Day 3Flight to Lukla (approximate 45 minutes) and trek to Phakding.

Duration of walking: 3-5 hrs
Route: Easy flat and downhill
Elevation: 2840m in Lukla and 2610me in Phakding.
Terrain: Flat and downhill, well developed paths, stone steps.
Descriptions: The breathtaking flight with Amazing Mountains views on approach to Lukla. First day of trek follows along the Dudh Kosi River towards Namche. The traditional Sherpa people and Buddhist memorials will be seen on the way to Phakding.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 4Namche Bazaar

Duration of walking: 5 hrs approx.
Route: Moderate
Elevation reached: 3440m.
Terrain: Moderate, Mostly uphill, rocky and dirt tracks, stone steps, gradual with some steep inclines.
Descriptions: Spectacular approaching views of Namche Bazaar, snowcapped peaks and the river valley. You will see milky waters of the Dudh Kosi River, thick rhododendron, magnolia and fir tree forests, and herds of yaks carrying supplies. On the way you come to cross some impressive suspension bridges over the river. At the end of the day you reach the colorful Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar – the gateway to the high Himalaya and valley.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 5Khumjung Village and back to Namche Bazaar. (Acclimatization day.)

Durations of walking: 3-4hrs approx.
Route: Moderate
Elevation reached: 3880m at Everest View Hotel, 3790m at Khumjung.
Terrain: Hilly, grassy trails, some steep inclines and flat tracks.
Mountain Views: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Taboche Peak and Ama Dablam.
Things to see: Your first sight of Everest!Sherpa museum, Khumjung Edmund Hillary School, shops and markets around Namche Bazaar.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 6Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche.

Durations of walking: 5-6 hrs approx.
Route: Moderate
Elevation reached: 3860m.
Terrain: River bank path, some steep inclines, some flat and some short descents.
Mountain Views: Ama Dablam, Kwangde, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kangtega, and Everest.
Things to see: Tyangboche monastery, magnificent panoramic views from Tyangboche.
The Lamas and Monks in the stunning Tyangboche Monastery, ornate wall hangings and a 20 foot statue of Lord Buddha.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 7Tyangboche to Pheriche.

Duration of walking: 5hr approx.
Route: Moderate.
Elevation reached: 4280m.
Terrain: Forest paths, riverbank trails, some gentle ascents and descents.
Mountain Views on offer: Lhotse, Island Peak, Ama Dablam.
Highlights: The meeting of the Imja and Khumbu rivers, walking along side the river listening to the gushing waters in this tranquil environment.
Things to see?: A Yeti scalp in the Pangboche Gompa, the fast flowing waters of the Imja Khola, sacred mani stone walls and chortens inscribed with Tibetan texts.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 8Pheriche to Lobuche.

Duration of walking: 4-6 hrs. Approx.
Route: Moderate to difficult
Elevation reached: 4940m.
Terrain: rocky tracks and some steep inclines where you will need to scramble for a short time.
Mountain Views: Pumori and The Khumbu Icefall amongst other beautiful Himalayan mountains.
Things to see: Reaching the top of a steep incline for breathtaking panoramic views amongst Buddhist chortens. Memorial sight for people who sadly lost their lives attempting to summit Everest, traditional Sherpa houses.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 9Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and Gorak Shep.

Hours of walking: 7-8 hrs. Approx.
Route: Difficult/strenuous
Elevation reached: 5300m at Base Camp and 5170m at Gorak Shep.
Terrain: Uneven, ridge tracks, rocky, uphill and flat trails.
Mountain Views: Too many to mention! You will be surrounded by an icy wonderland, get your cameras at the ready!
Highlights: Congratulations, you made it! You reached the base camp to the highest mountain in the world.
Things to see: You may see a group of mountaineers preparing to attempt an Everest summit. Sunset views from your Gorak Shep teahouse.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 10Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar and decent to Dingboche.

Hours of walking: 6-7hrs Approx.
Route: Strenuous
Elevation reached: 5545m at Kala Patthar, 4270m at Pheriche.
Terrain: Steep, rocky climb to Kala Patthar and a gentle descent over rocky and some well-defined paths to Pheriche.
Mountain Views: Mt. Everest Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Changtse and the surrounding Himalayas.
Highlights: The most spectacular, panoramic views from the top of Kala Patthar. Congratulations, you made it! You reached the highest point of the journey.
Things to see: Sunrise from Kala Patthar 5545m amidst a mountain wonderland, simply amazing.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 11Chhukung

Duration of walking: 2-3hrs approx.
Route: Easy.
Elevation reached: 4750.
Terrain: Flat and downhill trails, rocky but well defined paths.
Views on offer: Chhukung Ri.
Highlights: Climbing Chukung Ri for magnificent views or exploring the Imja and Lhotse Shar glaciers.
Things to see: It all depends which optional hike you decide to do. The views from Chhukung Ri and the glaciers are worth a visit.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 12Island Peak Base Camp.

Duration of Walking: 4-5hrs approx.
Route: moderate to difficult.
Elevation reached: 5090m.
Terrain: Steep ascents, lots of “up and down” on uneven tracks.
Views on offer: Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Imja Peak, Baruntac, Ama Dablam and Island Peak.
Highlights: Walking across the Lhotse, Lhotse Shar and Imja glaciers.
Things to see: Mountains, mountains and more beautiful mountains! You will also be introduced to your climbing equipment and given training to use it correctly.
Accommodation: Camping in a tent.

Day 13 & 14Island Peak Base summit and back to base camp.

We have 2 days here to complete the summit; everything depends on the weather conditions.
Route: Difficult/strenuous.
Elevation reached: 6173m.
Terrain: Rocks, snow and ice.
Views on offer: Makalu, (8485m) Ama Dablam, (6828m) Baruntac, (7168m) Lhotse, (8501m) Lhotse Shar, (8386m) Peak 38 (7590) and the long Imja Valley and Glacier.
Highlights: The achievement of conquering a Himalayan peak! Congratulations!
Things to see: What’s not to see! The mighty Himalayas in all their glory.
Accommodation: Camping in a tent.

Day 15Deboche

Duration of walking: 6-7hrs approx.
Difficulty: Moderate.
Elevation reached: 3770m.
Terrain: Riverbank trails, well defined rocky paths.
Views on offer: The Imja River and surrounding mountains and peaks.
Highlights: Returning to lower altitudes!
What’s to see: The villages of Chukkung, Dingboche, Shomare and Pangboche
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 16Namche Bazaar.

Hours of Walking: 4-5hrs approx.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate.
Elevation reached: 3440m.
Terrain: Steep descents, stone steps, rocky trails and grassland
Views on offer: The River Valley and snow-capped peaks in the distance.
Highlights: Returning to this vibrant Sherpa town.
What’s to see?: Check out the local markets, bars and restaurants.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 17Lukla

Hours of walking: 6-7hrs approx
Route: moderate.
Elevation reached: 2840m.
Terrain: By the banks of the river, stone steps and some steep descents and last ascents up to Lukla.
Views on offer: The glistening river amidst a mountain backdrop.
Highlights: Last day of walking in the Khumbu region. Well done, you completed your trip!
What’s to see: Thick forests, an array of birds and some final views of the mountains.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 18Flight back to Kathmandu.

Highlights: Another breathtaking airplane ride on a twin-engine otter amidst the mighty Himalayas.
Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 19Kathmandu

Activities: Free time!
Highlights: Time to shop, relax, get a massage.
Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 20Departure form Kathmandu

Time to go home with unforgettable memories and tell your friends and family of the fun and adventure that you had on your trek in Nepal. Or, you could also extend your trip.
