Tour Details

This circular Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek, also known as Cho La Pass Trek, explores the heart of the Sherpa homeland, is one of the most adventurous and challenging treks in the Everest regions. The trek initially follows the Base Camp route, passing through the lively town of Namche Bazaar and the magnificent site of Tyangboche where a spectacular monastery sits amidst a snow capped mountain panorama. Once you reached the Everest Base Camp, the route takes you to the summit of Kala Patthar, a spectacular viewpoint to see Mt. Everest in all her glory. You will be truly amazed by the views from here, highest mountains as far as your eye can see, covered in a total of snow. Route then leave the base camp trekkers behind and head up to Cho La Pass at 5330 meters. The trek is Steep inclines and rocky paths but your efforts will be rewarded as you walk through a magnificent view of high mountain pass. Furthermore, we carry on trekking to the glistening waters of the Gokyo Lake, a system of fresh water and sacred lakes, hidden between high Himalayas.

This trekking route really has it all, high altitude trekking, spectacular views overwhelming anywhere else in the world, the welcoming culture of the Sherpa people and a reaching the iconic Everest Base Camp. Finally you get the opportunity to summit Gokyo Peak (5483 meters) offering astonishing, panoramic views of Cho Oyo, Everest and Makalu.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu international Airport.

Welcome to Kathmandu!
Events: We will meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel, and just relax for the rest of the day to recover from your long journey.
Accomodation: Kathmandu 3 star hotel.

Day 2Meeting with your trekking guide, shopping for your journey and touring Kathmandu.

Tourist attractions: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa, Swaymbhunath and Patan Durbar Square, cultural and historical sights of the Kathmandu Valley.
Accommodation: Kathmandu 3 star hotel.

Day 3Flight to Lukla (approximate 45 minutes) and trek to Phakding.

Duration of walking: 3-5 hrs
Elevation: 2840m in Lukla and 2610me in Phakding.
Terrain: Easy Flat and downhill, well developed paths, stone steps.
Descriptions: The breathtaking flight with Amazing Mountains views on approach to Lukla. First day of trek follows along the Dudh Kosi River towards Namche. The traditional Sherpa people and Buddhist memorials will be seen on the way to Phakding.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 4Namche Bazaar

Duration of walking: 5 hrs. approximately.
Elevation reached: 3440m.
Terrain: Moderate, Mostly uphill, rocky and dirt tracks, stone steps, gradual with some steep inclines.
Descriptions: Spectacular approaching views of Namche Bazaar, snowcapped peaks and the river valley. You will see milky waters of the Dudh Kosi River, thick rhododendron, magnolia and fir tree forests, and herds of yaks carrying supplies. On the way you come to cross some impressive suspension bridges over the river. At the end of the day you reach the colorful Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar – the gateway to the high Himalaya and valley.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 5Khumjung Village and back to Namche Bazaar. (Acclimatization day.)

Durations of walking: 3-4hrs approx.
Elevation reached: 3880m at Everest View Hotel, 3790m at Khumjung.
Terrain: Moderate, Hilly, grassy trails, some steep inclines and flat tracks.
Mountain Views: Mount Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Taboche Peak and Ama Dablam.
Things to see: Your first sight of Everest!Sherpa museum, Khumjung Edmund Hillary School, shops and markets around Namche Bazaar.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 6Namche Bazaar to Tyangboche.

Durations of walking: 5-6 hrs approx.
Elevation reached: 3860m.
Terrain: Moderate, River bank path, some steep inclines, some flat and some short descents.
Mountain Views: Ama Dablam, Kwangde, Nuptse, Lhotse, Kangtega, and Everest.
Things to see: Tyangboche monastery, magnificent panoramic views from Tyangboche.
The Lamas and Monks in the stunning Tyangboche Monastery, ornate wall hangings and a 20 foot statue of Lord Buddha.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 7Tyangboche to Dingboche or Feriche.

Hours of walking: 5-6hrs approx.
Difficulty:.
Elevation reached: 4360m.
Terrain: Moderate, Rocky uphill tracks, stone steps, a gentle riverbank trail.
Mountain Views: Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Island Peak.
Things to see: The beautiful location of Dingboche under Ama Dablam, the mountain views from your teahouse, A Yeti scalp in the Pangboche Gompa, the fast flowing waters of the Imja Khola, Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 8Hike to Nagartsang and back to Dingboche (Acclimatization day)

Duration of Walking: 4hrs Approx.
Elevation reached: 5080 meters.
Terrain: moderate – difficult, Rocky and steep inclines.
Mountain Views: Remarkable view of Makalu and Lhotse.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 9Dingboche to Lobuche.

Duration of walking: 4-6 hrs. Approx.
Elevation reached: 4940m.
Terrain: moderate to difficult, rocky tracks and some steep inclines where you will need to scramble for a short time.
Mountain Views: Pumori and The Khumbu Icefall amongst other beautiful Himalayan mountains.
Things to see: Reaching the top of a steep incline for breathtaking panoramic views amongst Buddhist chortens. Memorial sight for people who sadly lost their lives attempting to summit Everest, traditional Sherpa houses.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 10Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and Gorak Shep.

Hours of walking: 7-8 hrs. Approx.
Elevation reached: 5300m at Base Camp and 5170m at Gorak Shep.
Terrain: Difficult/strenuous Uneven, ridge tracks, rocky, uphill and flat trails.
Mountain Views: Too many to mention! You will be surrounded by an icy wonderland, get your cameras at the ready!
Highlights: Congratulations, you made it! You reached the base camp to the highest mountain in the world.
Things to see: You may see a group of mountaineers preparing to attempt an Everest summit. Sunset views from your Gorak Shep teahouse.
Accommodation: Basic Teahouse.

Day 11Kala Patthar and Zongla.

Duration of walking: 7-8hrs Approx.
Elevation reached: 5545m at Kala Patthar, 4830m at Zongla.
Terrain: Strenuous route, Steep, rocky climb to Kala Patthar, uneven rocky and glacial paths to Zongla
Mountain Views: Everest and the surrounding mountains.
Highlights: The most spectacular, panoramic views from the top of Kala Patthar, crossing the Changri Shar Glacier.
Things to see?: Sunrise from 5545m amidst a mountain wonderland, simply amazing.
Accommodation: Teahouse.

Day 12Zongla to Thangnak via the Chola-la Pass.

Duration of walking: Approximately 6-7hrs Approx.
Difficult/Strenuous.
Elevation reached: 4680m at Thangnak and 5368m when crossing the Cho La Pass.
Terrain: Difficult/Strenuous route, Uneven tracks, large rocky areas where you will need to climb and jump off the rocks.
Mountain Views: Magnificent Himalayan peaks from the icy wilderness of the Cho La Pass.
Things to see: The high altitude pass, the Nagozumpa Glacier, standing on the Pass, glaciers and lots of snowcapped peaks!
Accommodation: Teahouse.

Day 13Thangnak to Gokyo.

Duration of Walking: 3-4hrs Approx, with an optional 4-hour trek to visit the fifth lake. (Nagozumpa Tsho)
Elevation reached: 4790m.
Terrain: Moderate route, glacial paths and well defined trekking paths.
Views on offer: The Gokyo Lakes
Things to see: The glistening waters of the Gokyo lakes, The third lake known as Dudh Kunda or Pokhari and the fifth lake known as Nagozumpa Tsho. The area surrounding the lakes, where your teahouse is located is an ideal place for a leisurely stroll to take in the scenery.
Accommodation: Teahouse.

Day 14Gokyo Ri and back to Gokyo.

Hours of walking: 4-6hrs Approx.
Elevation reached: 5357m.
Terrain: Strenuous route, steep incline to the top of Gokyo Ri, rocky and uneven.
Mountains Views: Magnificent view of Mt. Everest from another angle and many more mountains around the Gokyo Ri.
Highlights: Reaching the summit of Gokyo Ri peak where the views are out of this world.
Things to see: Gokyo lacks from the top and even more stupendous views of the Himalayas.
Accommodation: Teahouse.

Day 15Dole

Duration of walking: 6-7hrs Approx.
Difficulty: to difficult.
Elevation reached: 4110m.
Terrain: Moderate route and Glacial paths and steep descents.
Mountain Views: The first (Longpongo) and second (Tajung Tso) of the Gokyo Lakes.
Highlights: Returning to lower altitudes! Walking alongside the Nagozumpa glacier.
Things to see: Beautiful sceneries along the villages of Machermo and Luzo.
Accommodation: Teahouse.

Day 16Dole to Namche Bazaar.

Duration of walking: 5-6hrs Approx.
Elevation reached: 3440m.
Terrain: Easy descents through forest paths.
Views on offer: Thick forests and a magnificent mountain backdrop.
Highlights: Soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of Namche Bazaar with its array of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Things to see: Wild mountain goats, Rhododemdron and fir trees, and the lophophorus bird which is the national bird of Nepal.
Accommodation: Teahouse in Namche Bazaar.

Day 17Namche Bazaar to Lukla.

Hours of walking: 6-7hrs.
Difficulty:.
Elevation reached: 2840m.
Terrain: Easy, downhill and flat, treks run by the banks of the river, stone steps and some descents and last ascents up to Lukla.
Views on offer: The glistening river amidst a mountain backdrop.
Highlights: Last day of walking in the Khumbu region. Well done, you completed your trip!
Things to see: Thick forests, an array of birds and some final views of the mountains.

Day 18Flight back to Kathmandu.
